Correct sizing for pouch slings is essential for the comfort of both parent and baby. Find your best fit with the Hotslings chart below (use pre-pregnancy weight if you're expecting). If you fall between sizes
and have big breasts, broad shoulders, a big baby, or wear bulky clothes,
pick the larger size. The size/shape of your upper body above your waist is more important than the size/shape of your body below your waist.
To
measure from shoulder to hip: use
a soft tape measure and start at the outer corner of your shoulder and measure
diagonally across the front of your body down to your hip bone. The number (in inches)
should be in the 20s. If you are pregnant, measure across your back, but take into account your chest size.
I highly recommend measuring with a tape measure and using that number in conjunction with the information in the chart to get the best fit. Keep in mind: the pouches are sized such that baby will be held high and tight against your body, above your waistline. This ensures the most comfortable and secure fit for most people.
Notes on fit: Everyone is different. What a person can and can't tolerate is largely a matter of preference. Some people can wear more
than one size and that's OK. It's like going to the clothing store and being
able to buy jeans in both a size 10 and a size 12. They both fit, but maybe one's
slightly looser.
Too Small:
Feels uncomfortably tight; digs
into baby's legs; crazy hard to get baby in
Too Big:
Baby doesn't feel securely held in the pouch; your legs bump
the baby as you walk; your back aches after a short time; sling slips off your shoulder
Just Right:
Baby is snug and tight against your body and feels securely held; baby is above or at your waistline; fabric can be comfortably spread across your shoulder and back to distribute baby's weight, without pulling too tightly or slipping off your shoulder
